    Mr. Higashiyama Akira
    2024

    Higashiyama Akira,Born in 1968 in Taiwan, he moved to Fukuoka, Japan with his family at 5 years old. With the routes of migration crossing from China, Taiwan to Japan and identity recognition, the experiences inspire him and offer him inspiration for writing. His works are with a sense of being outsider. The characters he has created are young but strange with delicate observation. In 2024, being invited to NCHU, Higashiyama Sensei delivered two talks, "Literature of Homeland, Homeland within Literautre" and "Between Taiwan and Japan: Experiences of Cross-Cultural Diaspora."

    Ms. Ping Lu
    2020

    Ms. Ping Lu, born in 1953, is a well-known journalist, writer and commentator, and has been Director of Kwang-Hwa Information and Culture Center in Hong Kong in 2003-10 and President of Radio Taiwan International (RTI) in 2015. Serving as the writer-in-residence of the Advanced Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences in National Chung-Hsing University in 2020, Ms. Ping Lu exchanged with teachers and students of her experiences of artistic and literary creation and cooperating with industries. In this series of activities, two keynote speeches were delivered with the themes of “What Words Connected” and “The Consolation of Literature”. In addition, there are two writing workshops, where Ms. Ping Lu shared with students one-on-one her experiences of creating literary works, and signed on the title page of her representative novel Black Water, which was designated as permanent collections of commemoration in the library.

    Ms. Wu Luo-Ying

    Ms.Wu Luo-Ying, born in 1968, is a famous playwright, screenwriter, and has been jury chairperson of the Golden Bell Award. She served as the writer-in-residence of the Advanced Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences in National Chung Hsing University in 2018. Ms. Wu started a three-month exchange with teachers and students about her experiences of artistic and literary creation and working with industries. In addition to planning three series of speeches with drama creation as the core, she also organized the Script Writing Workshop five times in cooperation with the Grand Theater Workshop of NCHU, where she shared practical experiences in scriptwriting and theater directing. At the same time, the “Book Fair and Film Exhibition of Writers-in-Residence” was also set up in the Xingyue Square located in the library, which displayed related books, posters, and videos of dramas and stage plays written and directed by Ms. Wu.

    Ms. Chen Xue
    2017

    Born in Taichung 1970, Ms. Chen Xue is an influential writer in Taiwan literature and served as the center's writer-in-residence of the Advanced Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences in National Chung Hsing University in 2017. During this period, the center organized various activities such as the opening ceremony, six lectures, and a book fair. Ms. Chen shared her wonderful life experiences and writing career. Furthermore, several creative workshops were organized. Through one-on-one personal teaching, students interested in writing were allowed to discuss her works with Ms. Chen herself.

    Mr. Egoyan Zheng

    As one of the most representative novelists in younger generations of Taiwan's writers, Mr. Egoyan Zheng who born in 1977 served as the center’s writer-in-residence of the Advanced Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences in National Chung Hsing University in 2016, and started a close literary dialogue with the teachers and students. During his residency, Mr. Zheng, through one-on-one teaching, discussed his works with students who aspired to create. He also gave three speeches, which were themed respectively on the following three books: “Big Cleverness: Just One Trick, An Unlimited Applicable Text Analysis Method”, “I Like Science fiction, because science fiction is the most extreme”, and “So Ge Weilong became Alice Ann Munro after marriage: Talking about Zhang Ailing and Alice Ann Munro's concepts of marriage.” In these speeches, he shared his insight into the value and meaning of contemporary literature.

    Mr. Luo Yijun

    To invigorate the literary atmosphere of the campus and enhance students’ ability to create literary works, the Advanced Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences in National Chung-Hsing University invited Mr. Luo Yijun, a novelist born in 1967 who is well-known in the Chinese world and win a lot literary prizes, to serve as a writer-in-residence in 2015, and to conduct a series of literary dialogues with teachers and students. During this period, a series of literary activities were organized such as the book signing of the writer-in-residence, workshops involving creation, speeches, and lectures. Also, an book exhibition was held in the library, which displayed Mr. Luo's literary works as well as the works of domestic and foreign writers he recommended.
